Introduced as the perfect middle ground between the 911T and the high‑performance 911S, the Porsche 911E represented a refined balance of luxury, drivability, and engineering sophistication. E stood for Einspritzung(injection), referencing the Bosch mechanical fuel-injection system that was shared within the higher-perfomance 911S. By 1970, the 911E had evolved into a highly capable touring sports car, offering a blend of comfort, precision, and innovation that defined Porsche’s engineering philosophy during the golden era of the long‑hood 911.
The 1970 model year marked the final stretch of the C‑Series before Porsche transitioned to the D‑Series, making late‑production examples particularly desirable among collectors. Built in July 1970, this car is believed to be one of the last 1,304 C‑Series 911E coupes produced. Porsche continued refining the chassis, ergonomics, and mechanical fuel injection system during this period, while expanding factory options to meet the demands of increasingly sophisticated buyers. The result was a 911E that delivered long‑distance touring comfort without compromising the agility and character that defined early air‑cooled 911s.

This example is a highly optioned and exceptionally well‑preserved 1970 Porsche 911E coupe, special‑ordered on February 20, 1970 through Hans Kahrmann Volkswagen‑Porsche in Fulda, Germany by a U.S. Army officer stationed nearby. Finished in special‑order Silver Metallic over black leatherette with optional corduroy Recaro sport seats, it blends the touring comfort of the E with several performance‑oriented features inspired by the contemporary 911S. Delivered new to original owner at the Stuttgart factory in nearly July 1970, and believed to be among the final C‑Series coupes built, this 911E presents a rare combination of provenance, specification, and originality.
This 911E carries a remarkable and unusually well‑documented history. After accompanying its original owner back to the United States in 1971, a mechanical mishap during importation left the car with a spun bearing by late 1973. The previous owner disassembled the engine and stored the car for the next forty years. Rediscovered in a Connecticut barn in 2014, it subsequently underwent a comprehensive professional restoration. The numbers‑matching 2.2‑liter flat‑six was rebuilt and upgraded to contemporary 911S specifications by Redline Service of Tucson, including cylinder heads, valves, cams, and exhaust components, while the mechanical fuel injection pump and throttle system were restored by Jerry Fairchild Industries. The steel monocoque chassis received a complete teardown and refinishing in its original Silver Metallic, with invoices totaling over $54,500 and 760 hours of labor.
Beyond its mechanical pedigree, this 911E stands out for its extensive factory options: electric sunroof, heated and tinted glass, rear wiper, improved front and rear sway bars, limited‑slip differential, U.S.‑spec gauges, rear bumper skirt, and original 15×6 Fuchs wheels, each believed to retain matching date stamps. The interior retains its period‑correct character, with the rear seats preserved in their as‑found condition. Now showing just under 61,200 miles and accompanied by its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Kardex, manuals, tool kit, order sheet, import documents, and a complete binder of service records from new, this 911E represents a rare opportunity to acquire a fully restored, numbers‑matching, late C‑Series coupe with exceptional provenance and specification.
