This BMW 'three liter' Coupe is a factory 3.0 CSi. It was produced by BMW in Bavaria on the 17th of October 1972 and was delivered to BMW of Italia in Palazzolo, northern Italy on the 25th of October '72. The car was ordered in 060 Polaris Silver Metallic over a Navy interior and was first registered on the 29th of November 1972. The car served one owner in Italy and in 1995 it came to the Netherlands. We have the mileage-registration since 1998, find it along the pictures. The car sat parked between '95 and '98. It '98 it was registered with 105.823 kilometers. The mileage-history is complete documented between 1998 and 2022 - 24 years - Half the age of the car. In this time the car travelled 48.000 kilometers / 30k miles. This says the car drove its first 105.000 kilometers between 1972 and 1995 in Italy and the total mileage today is 153.925 kilometers / 95k miles. It's quite rare to see a documented mileage on a 50 year old car.
Between 2016 and 2017 the car was restored to it's current, beautiful condition. The car needed a light restoration, which is a good thing. Why? This car led it's life in Italy - a warm and dry climate. The car didnt need any welding and has a very solid, straight body. The A-pillars, engine-bay and inner-fenders are in great, original condition. The car was dis-assembled and painted completely in the original color 060 Polaris Silver. This was carried out very well - A nice, thin coat of Polaris, perfect panelgaps and a deep shine. All windows and trim we're taken off - no masking marks. The engine-bay was painted too and looks beautiful. Since the body is and was so original the car is beautifully straight and the typical bend/fold in the sides are there nicely. It wears original doors and fenders which contributes to a nice and straight car.
After the paintjob the car was assembled correctly and beautifully. New rocker covers with new trim, new headlights, new emblems, and ofcourse all new gaskets and rubbers. The chrome around the car is in beautiful condition. The chrome bumpers are in very nice original condition and have been fitted with new rubber mouldings. The optional tinted glass is original, apart from a brand new front windscreen. The taillights are in beautiful original condition - quite rare to see them this nice. The chrome grilles on the fenders and hood have been repaced with new parts. Everything on and around the car is in very good orginal condition or replaced with new - nothing left forgotten.
The engine-bay of this E9 looks spectacular. New Polaris paint and new decals. Its 3.0 liter injection engine has been rebuilt in the past and runs perfectly. It's the matching numbers unit and it doesnt leak or smoke. The engine runs lovely: smooth idle, smooth on revs, silent and powerful. Everything around the engine has been reworked too: New cap, rotor, leads, plugs, new waterpump, hoses, clamps, thermostat, belts. The injectors have been cleaned and tested and have all new fuel hoses. It has a rebuilt starter motor, Varta battery, new voltage regulator and new coil.
The car sits on lowered suspension and drives lovely. The wheels are genuine Alpina wheels in 7x14" with new centercaps and new lugnuts. The tires are genuine Vredestein Sprint Classic. A great wheel/tire combo for the E9. The brakes consist of rebuilt front and rear calipers around healthy rotors and thick pads. The brake mastercylinder was rebuilt, there is a full set of new brakelines mounted and the brake fluid is new. During the restoration a complete stainless steel exhaust system was mounted. To properly prevent it from rust it received a Dinitrol anti-rust treatment after the restoration. All hollow sections / cavities were treated with a grease and the under carriage was protected with the Dinitrol undercoating in the typical brown color.
The inside shows it's two previous owner have taken very good care of this 3.0 CSi - it's led an easy life in Italy. It really shows on the inside: Dash, wood, doorpanels, carpets and headliner are the originals from 1972! The dashboard hasn't been restored and shows the original vinyl and so is the center console with Blaupunkt radio. The wood on the dash and doorpanels are also original and in great condition. The loop-style carpets in blue are original and nice and clean, a new set of floormats was installed. The leather interior was reupholstered beautifully in the correct Navy color. To top it all of -the famous Nardi wooden steering wheel.
The trunk shows it's original grey paneling. Both over the wheelhousings as the flat panels over the tank and spare wheel. It houses a powdercoated spare wheel with new tire, repainted jack and tool.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to be behind the wheel of such a beautiful collectible, the 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi.
