- One of fewer than 25 ever produced - 400 km - Turbocharged Audi 2.2L inline 5 engine - 250 HP - Silver exterior - Gray leather interior -

This incredibly rare 1988 Italdesign Aztec was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and first introduced to the public at the 1988 Turin Motor Show to commemorate Italdesign’s twentieth anniversary. It is one of what is believed to have been fewer than 25 built during a planned 50-car production run. This vehicle was reportedly on display at the Shanghai Automotive Museum in China between 2011 and 2015 before being imported to the US by the Blackhawk Collection in California.  Notably, the Italdesign Aztec appeared in the 1990 science fiction horror movie Frankenstein Unbound as the computer-controlled futuristic car of the movie's protagonist, Dr. Joe Buchanan.

One of the most unique and identifiable features of the Aztec is the twin-cockpit body that requires the driver and passenger to communicate electronically.  It has gull-wing doors with removable visor sections.  Another unique exterior feature is the mock control panel on both sides of the car, located at the aluminum body panels at the rear of the vehicle.  The functional concept of these control panels allowed for information about the car's performance status along with certain functions of the car (i.e. an extra set of lights, hydraulic jack, removable screw driver, a fire extinguisher, a compressor for inflating tires and a flashlight) to be accessed via a voice message when specific codes were entered into the panel.  The twin-cockpit body is finished in silver over a gray leather interior, and additional design elements include dual-action doors, service control panels in the exterior fairings, twin removable plexiglass cockpit canopies, and a passenger trip information console. A turbocharged Audi 2.2-liter inline-five paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and a Lancia all-wheel drive system produce 250 horsepower.  With just 400 km on the odometer, this iconic vehicle is a worthy addition to any collection.  Contact us today to make an offer.
